The Facebook film

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=7964012

Ten years ago we had the movie Pirates of Silicon Valley and now we have The Social Network. Each of these films tells the story of the rise of a new form of IT, personal computers in Pirates, and Facebook in Social Network. There are movies that are fantasy, they could happen in real life, but it is just something someone came up with, and there are historical movies, movies about historical events. An example of a "fantasy" it film is The Net, could theoretically happen but it did not.

Think about this, one hundred years from now, movies like Pirates of Silicon Valley and The Social Network, will tell the story how IT advanced from where it used to be to where it is in the future. Who knew the development of the PC and Facebook would be important enough that a studio would spend money on these films. I would imagine there may be another IT historical type movie in ten years, or maybe five with the rapid advances in IT we are now seeing. Anyone waiting for a movie about Google?

  1. I think that it is ridiculous that movies like this can actually be made. Facebook consumes enough lives today; now, it will start consuming the money of movie-goers. Several years from now people will laugh at things like this the same way we laugh at Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer. The hind-sight will be obvious that our culture just did not know better. It is also a shame how other countries around the world will view this movie. Around the world they celebrate movies because of the art it actually is. It is still modern theatre around the globe. Now we are starting to trash this art will junk about a social website. Hopefully, this time of ignorant films will soon pass. However, I am not sure if it will based on some films released in recent years.

  2. First of all, Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer are no laughing matter! Next, I almost agree but I have to disagree. Facebook has become an integrated part of the very culture that defines us. You can't go anywhere anymore without finding a single person that uses Facebook on almost a regular, daily basis. This is not only a film that will capture audience attention, but something that they will almost find themselves a part of, because almost each person will be or have been a part of facebook at least once. I think it will do well...
